Job Description

Job Summary: 

A Metallurgist for PTC Alliance is primarily responsible for quality control of incoming steel and in-process tubing. Personnel is responsible for creating heat-treatments for tubing, performing various metallurgical tests and investigations to maintain quality and specifications of tubing and material, and generation and distribution of certified test reports. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for providing metallurgical support for the purchase, evaluation, and claims of the steel strip.
  • Reviewing, advising, and maintaining customer specification database.
  • Providing supervision and metallurgical support for in plant lab testing and outsourcing.
  • Advising heat treatments to meet customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Supporting manufacturing through technical analysis of samples and data.
  • Providing certification and testing of manufactured tubing.
  • Leading projects to improve metallurgical processes and lab.
  • Leading steel vendor quality meetings and claims.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • One of the primary requirements for success in this position is the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously to achieve successful results.
  • The incumbent in this position must possess excellent communication skills; both written and oral. The Metallurgist must be able to provide clear and deliberate insight and provide thoughtful and concise reports on any arising issues.  The ability to communicate across all levels of an organization.
  • A candidate must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, customers, suppliers and/or public groups.
  • The Incumbent in this position will conduct himself/herself with the highest of integrity. They will interact with customers and colleagues in a professional manner.  They will manage their use of company resources in a prudent and efficient manner.
  • Mathematical Skills – Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Employee must possess a valid driver’s license for business travel, such as customer visits, conference attendance, and required off-site meetings.

Job Requirements

A successful candidate in this position will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering and/or have relevant experience equal to 3-5 years.
